Set in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (Gardd Fotanic Genedlaethol Cymru) was built as a millennium project on an old Regency estate whose grand home was lost to a fire in 1933. It consists of the world’s largest single-span glasshouse, designed by Lord Foster, a double-walled garden with a smaller tropical greenhouse, vegetable and formal and informal perennial gardens, a Japanese garden and many other gardens and art features.
It is my favourite place to go when visiting family in Llanelli and Swansea. The clean air, long country walks and abundance of cultivated and wild plants making each visit fresh and stimulating.
